The sprint qualifying had a lot going on. If you missed it, you missed an action-packed qualifying. Even before the sprint started, it was a dead-end for Fernando Alonso when all cars went for the formation lap, and his tyre covers stayed on. It turns out he had some mechanical problem and did to participate in the race. To add more trouble Zhou's engine stopped right before he could get to his grid spot after the formation lap which resulted in an extra formation lap. But he somehow managed to get the car running but had o start from the pitlane.
Lap one was similar to Silverstone when Hamilton and Gasly made contact and both ended up losing a lot of grid places. While this was happening in the back, both Ferraris were having a mean fight in the front.
One RedBull was leading the race, while Perez who dropped down to P13 due to a lap time deletion was chasing down the grid. By lap 9, he was already up to P6.
On the other hand, Hamilton who dropped down to P13 was gaining, gaining and gaining. Sebastian Vettel who gained 6 places due to the lap one fiasco, ended up tumbling down the grid when he was sent into the gravel when Alex Albon made contact with him. Sebastian went tumbling down to p19. To knock out the last bit of hope for the beloved Vettel fans, Aston Martian had to retire the car in the last lap due to damage in his car from the collision.
Haas masterclass was seen today. As Hamilton who gained up to p9 was breathing down young Schumacher for the final points places. Mick who had DRS from his teammate managed to hold off Hamilton til the last lap until a small mistake caused him that final points place and ended up in P9. A great defending shown by Mick today.
Max took pole followed by Charles in P2 and Sainz in P3.
This sprint was indeed a great action-packed one. Cannot wait for race day.
