Red flags + Monaco qualifying = a chaotic duo

This time, the home town hero came home to a pole without causing a red flag.

Monaco is known for its red flags during qualifying. The qualifying determines the winner of the race. The man who takes pole always wins the Monaco Grand Prix.

The first red flag was triggered by Yuki when he touched the barriers at the nouvelle chicane and punctured his left front tire.

Even though a red was was not required, it was reported that a local marshall waved a red flag and the FIA had no choice but to red flag the session.

With traffic at the end of the pitlane for Q1, Albon, Gasly, Stroll, Latifi and Zhou were knocked out of Q1.

It was a non-red flag Q2, all 15 cars went off their fling laps trying to get out of the elimination zone. But, Yuki, Bottas, Kevin, Daniel and Mick were knocked out of Q2.

The fight for pole began, when the green lights flashed for the final, Q3 session. The top 10 on track, trying to qualify for the best position for the race at the crown jewel of F1.

Charles Leclerc set a blistering lap and got the provisional pole at 1 min 11 seconds. As Charles cruised to the pole position, the other 9 cars behind him tried to snatch the pole. But with just 30 seconds to go, the session was red-flagged.

This time, it was Checo's Redbull that hit the barriers at Portier and Carlos Sainz who was behind him, hit the brakes on seeing the yellow flags and lost control of his car and hit Perez. Behind them, it was Alonso who spun at turn5. It was indeed a chaotic qualifying indeed and frustrating for the drivers who were unable to finish their last qualifying lap.

Well with Charles with pole, it would be a dream come true if he could win his home race. But he has his teammate, Carlos in P2 and Perez in P3. Hamilton in P7, Alonso in P8 and Vettel in P9, 13 championships at the bottom of the top 10. It will be a battle to keep an eye out on.
