Monaco is one of the most interesting and exciting races of all. Since it is more of a street racing rather than a circuit, the qualifying performance is very important. The one who gets pole is basically the winner on Sunday. But this was not the case for Charles Leclerc. The Ferrari driver grabbed the pole but the pole costed him in a damaged chassis. Ferrari said Charles will be starting from the pole on Sunday morning since his car did not have any gearbox damage. As the Monegasque was on his warmup lap he encountered a gearbox issue again.
Failed to fix it, Charles did not start the race. Talk about the Monaco curse for Charles. Since all this happened at the last minute, the P1 position was left open, which was a huge opportunity for Max or Bottas to take the lead.
And IT'S LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE GO. Max had the upper hand and took the lead straight away. Bottas tried to overtake but failed.
Overtake is impossible in Monaco. Lewis was stuck behind Gasly's Alpha Tauri and was frustrated. He was paying the price for a bad qualifying session. The race was going on well until Bottas decided to pit. The p2 position holder entered to pit first but to his dismay, the front right wheel nut got stuck and the pit crew was unable to remove it. He had to retire. A sad weekend for Mercedes.
With Bottas retiring Carlos Sainz took P2 and Lando Norris took P3 with Max leading the race.
In the last 10 laps, Lando had some trouble with his car yet he kept pushing with the second RedBull behind him inching closer and closer. But the RedBull was not faster than Lando's Mclaren. The winning lap was on with Max Verstappen in P1, Carlos Sainz in P2 and Lando Norris in P3.
The top three were followed by Sergio in P4 and Sebastian Vettel in P5. Vettel scored his first points of the 2021 session in Monaco. A very good day for Aston Martin and the Vettel Fans indeed. Vettel was followed by Gasly, a very frustrated Hamilton, Stroll, Oncon and Giovanazzi. With Raikkonen in 11th and Daniel in 12th, Alonso, Russel, Latifi, Tsunoda, Mazapin and Schumacher which leaves Bottas in 19th with DNF and The pole-sitter Leclerc in 20th with DNS.
