The Sprint Qualifying

f1paddockgirl

The first-ever Formula 1 sprint qualifying took place in Silverstone. Lewis Hamilton on pole followed by Max and Bottas. All drivers have to complete 17 laps and the cars crossing the chequered flag will be on the grid for Sunday's race.

17 laps seem so less. But a lot happened in those 17 laps and ill break it down lap by lap.

Lap 1

 • Max took the lead even though his brakes were literally on fire.

 • He managed to get past Lewis in turn 1. Alonso gained 5 positions in the first lap as well.

 • There was a yellow flag as well, turns out the two HAAS had contact and Nikita spun around.

 • Russell and Sainz had contact, where Sainz went off the road and ended up in P18.

*Russell and Sainz's incident is still under investigation.

Lap 6

 • Sergio spun and went into the grass damaging his front nose and possible floor damage. He went straight down to P18.

 • Lando Norris overtook Alonso to took up P5.

Lap 9

 • Danny Ric was the next McLaren to overtake Alonso and ended up in P6

Lap 10 -17

 • The battle between old rivals, Vettel and Alonso for P7 continued till the end.

 • Sergio had to retire the car in the last lap due to some damage and he will start at the last of the grid. Not a great memory for Checo's first sprint race.

Winning Ceremony

 • Max won the Sprint qualifying followed by Lewis and Bottas.

 • All the winners went on a winners parade and they were awarded the old fashioned laurels.
