We are back for round 9 of the Formula One World Championship in theRed Bull Ring surrounded by the beautiful Austrian hills. It's a sunny afternoon for FP1 but rain is expected this weekend.
It's green lights for FP1 as Sebastian Vettel leads the way followed by Carlos Sainz and Nicholas Latifi.
It's a very special day down in the Alpine garage as Guanyu Zhou makes his F1 debut in Fernando Alonso's car. From supporting Alonso during the 2005 Chinese Grand Prix to making a debut in his cars. Dreams came true for Zhou.
Callum Illot and Roy Nissany made into FP1 for Giovanazzi and Russell respectively.
With only 9 minutes in Gasly goes fastest but his lap time deleted due to track limitations in turn 10. During the course of the session, his time got deleted multiple times due to track limitations in turn 10. But he wasn't the only one, Hamilton also got his track time deleted a couple of times due to exceeding track limitation in turn 10.
Lance Stroll caused a yellow flag not once but twice. Once I turn 7 as he slipped into the gravel and went into the grass.
And the second time when he spins off in turn 10 and goes into the grass again.
Not a great session for Lance as he kept spinning off. But the Aston Martin did not have any major damage.
All drivers had problems with turn 3 as all spun into the escape road during the entire session. Lewis, Bottas. Charles, Carlos, Lando, Yuki all were a victim of the famous Turn 3 spin.
A small accident was diverted by Kimi's quick reflexes who almost crashed into Mazepin when Kimi was on his flying lap.
A very angry Kimi had to back off from his lap and start again. A similar incident took place with Hamilton and Mazepin in turn. Hamilton avoids Mazepin in a small Gap.
All drivers complain about traffic built up in turn 1 before their flying lap.
At the end of the session, Lando and Max went wheel to wheel with Lando overtaking Max before entering the pit lap.
That was the end of FP1.
Free Practise 2
It's grey skies in the Red Bull ring this afternoon for FP2 and 60% chances of rain are expected.
Carlos Sainz leads FP2 followed by Latifi and Alonso. As all cars out on the track and o their out lap. Sainz goes on his flying lap followed by Bottas who goes the fastest in all 3 sectors with 1.05.602. While Nikita and Esteban got their tract time deleted due to track limitations in turn10.
Charles Leclerc had a small flick and spin in turn 9 in the apex as he turned in a little too early.
Both the Alfa Romeo was performing very well and showing amazing race pace both went fast enough to secure places at the top 10. Talking about race pace both Aston Martin were in 4th and 5th and showing amazing performance his weekend.
Halfway through the session, Valtteri Bottas goes fastest, purple in all three sectors.
So good to see Mercedes on the top of the charts again.
Lando Norris complains about rain showers in turn 3. Same as FP1, drivers have trouble in turn 3 again.
Lewis Hamilton goes into the gravel trap in turn 4 followed by his teammate Bottas, as he locks up his front right and goes into the gravel.
Yellow Flag in sector one as Lando lock up in turn 1 and goes into the grass.
He immediately pits for the test tires and exits the pitlane to put on a final flying lap.
As the session ends, the HAM BOT MAX returns to the top of the charts, followed by STR and VET.
Both the sessions went great, can.t wait for Qualifying. Stay tuned for more.
